Ntuzuma - Science HODs from all fifteen (15 ) High Schools that are invited by the Organisation Of Mathematics Education in Disadvantaged Schools (OMEDS) to participate in this year's event of EThekwini Municipality Mathematics And Science Olympiads (EMMSO), were gathered at KwaMashu Education Centre, yesterday, to receive their EMMSO packages.
OMEDS in partnership with the EThekwini Municipality have created a plartfom where all learners from under-resourced schools of EThekwini will be able to showcase their talent and skills in the most feared subjects of the country's education curriculum, Mathematics and Physical Science.
EThekwini Municipality Mathematics and Science Olympiads have three exciting stages. The first stage will be on 6th of March 2020, where 360 learners from 30 High schools coming from six (6) townships (Umlazi, KwaMashu, Ntuzuma, Inanda, Hammardale and Lamontville) will battle for the limited spaces of the second stage.
On the 22nd of May 2020, sixteen (16) high schools will compete on Stage 2, for the final eight spots.
The third and final stage of the competitions (Stage 3) will be on the 14th of August 2020, where eight high schools will battle for the top three spots.
OMEDS is in talks with different companies to sponsor or be funders of EMMSO (Maths & Science Olympiad). According to Ms Thandeka Nzama, who is the Chief Fundraising Officer of the organisation, many companies want to be part of this exciting high schools Math & Science competition which seeks to instil love and passion of Maths & Science in our high school learners. She, concluded by saying that, the names of the sponsors will be disclosed in the OMEDS media briefing to be held soon.
