OMEDS-EMMSO GENERAL REGULATIONS
1.1 The eThekwini Municipality Mathematics and Science Olympiad (EMMSO) is governed by EMMSO Annual
Regulations made by the Organisation Of Mathematics Education In Disadvantaged Schools (OMEDS)
1.2 The EMMSO takes place on dates and in a venue specified in the EMMSO Annual Regulations.
1.3 It is the responsibility of every participant to ensure that their participation in EMMSO, represents and supports the aims of EMMSO.
1.4 The competition must at all times be in the spirit of fair play.
1.5 The OMEDS officials may approve extensions of the deadlines specified in the EMMSO Annual
Regulations.
1.6 The aims of the EMMSO are:
1.6.1 To discover, encourage and challenge mathematically gifted young people.
1.6.2 To promote the interest of learners in research methods, statistics and statistical techniques.
1.6.3 To encourage learners to understand the local community in a scientific and objective manner through the proper use of statistics.
1.6.4 To foster friendly relationships among mathematicians; teachers and learners.
1.6.5 To create an opportunity for the exchange of mathematical information between the well - resourced and under-resourced schools in the Municipality.
1.6.6 To promote mathematics generally.
1.7 The EMMSO Annual Regulations must be approved by the OMEDS.
1.8 The official language of the EMMSO is English.
1.9 The EMMSO must be free from bullying, sexual harassment and any other form of discrimination (for example on grounds of gender identity, nationality, physical abilities, religion or sexual preference). All participants (including volunteers and organisers) must conduct themselves with dignity and show respect to everyone.
