In partnership with the Department of Basic Education and other stakeholders, OMEDS works with teachers in disadvantaged and under-resourced schools to identifying learners who are potential high-achievers in Mathematics, Physical Science and Accounting through our well designed sifting program. The program basically aims at forming grade 10; 11 and 12 classes of each year. The program is ignited by the setting of standard tests by experts in the abovementioned subjects. The process subsequently arrive a stage where the selected learners engage with the tests at a common with characteristically stringent invigilation measures. Finally, the marking of tests by experienced and credible markers takes place in a manner that allows that allows correct learners to be identified. We form two classes per grade, namely, the Science (Focuses on Mathematics and Physical Science) and Commerce class (Focuses on Mathematics and Accounting ). Both classes are then taught by the experts in the subjects.
OMEDS PHYSICAL SCIENCE & COMMERCE LEARNERS PROGRAM (OMEDS-LP)
◇ School Invitation:
In setting the whole project in motion school principals will be briefed about the project and its objectives and invitations to be extended for participation.
◇ School-Based Selections:
Responding to the invitations, an expectation is that schools will select and send the best grade 10 learners for common paper writing. The writing of the common papers will take place at a common venue.
◇ Common Papers:
To be set and marked by the experts. Candidate learners will write the common papers in order to qualify for selection.
◇ Sifting And OMEDS Classes:
The best 200 learners per district will be sifted and will form the project class for the year ahead. The same process will be used for the formation of classes for subsequent years. There will be 600 learners per district comprising of grade 10 to 12 learners.
◇ Family Visiting:
As part of the project plan, a partnership and relationship establishment with parents is critical. Families of sifted learners will be visited for these purposes as well as planned learner-welfare purposes.
◇ Data Analysis And On-point Intervention:
Data collected from family visits will inform tailor-made, individual support for selected learners.
◇ Learner Transportation:
As part of the project plan, learners will be commuted to and fro their residences to proactively rid the project of unwanted hiccups and challenges such as late coming, truancy and so on.
